Event Overview

Join us on Monday, December 2nd from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for a special evening event at Patagonia-Sonoita Creek Preserve!

We will start with a ~1-mile nature walk, led by Preserve Manager Aaron Mrotek, to arrive at the preserve’s backfields which are excellent for stargazing. Harold Meckler, a local astronomy enthusiast, will have a telescope and laser pointer to describe all the cool things to see in the sky.

Don't forget to dress warmly and bring binoculars for star viewing and a flashlight for the walk. Please RSVP by emailing aaron.mrotek@tnc.org.

About Harold Meckler: Harold is a regular contributor to the Patagonia Regional Times as an astronomy writer. Also a retired social worker, Harold moved to the Patagonia area 12 years ago from Tucson. His uncle was instrumental in igniting his interest in astronomy, who took him to the Haydn Planetarium in New York City as a child and showed him a rare display of the Aurora Borealis over his family farm in New Jersey. His favorite night sky memory is finding Halley’s Comet from the back of his pickup truck and dragging his family out on a cold night to look at it.
