Native Seed Collection at Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve
Where: Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve HQ:
2480B KS-177, Strong City, KS 66869 (Directions)
Why: Restoring previously tilled lands to their original state—in this case lowland prairie—takes time, resources and careful planning. The collection of local seed is an essential part of this process, as it is better adapted to our climate than commercially available alternatives. Additionally, many of the species we're cultivating are difficult or impossible to find from a vendor. We invite you to join us in collecting native seeds on the following days from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Saturday, October 25, 2025
Native seed collection events are hosted in partnership with our friends at the National Park Service. No sign-up is required, and attendees may join on a “come and go” basis. We kindly ask that participants keep an eye on the forecast and dress for the weather.
