Biography
Elif leads The Nature Conservancy's Renewable Energy Program in Europe, working to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy in a nature-positive way and shift to a low-carbon economy.
Prior to joining TNC, Elif worked at Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, most recently serving as interim head of energy coordinating the energy policy and campaigns of CAN Europe across different areas of work in Europe. While leading the energy team, she worked on the EU's electricity market design to adopt an NGO position on a strong and flexible energy market that would accommodate a maximum intake of renewable energy. While at CAN, Elif also developed the organization’s vision on Just Transformation and set up the network secretariat's team and operations in Turkey, with a focus on coal phase out and climate policy.
Throughout her career, Elif has focused on matching a community and rights-based “bottom-up” approach with “top-down” political and institutional policies. She holds an MSc in environmental social sciences from the University of Kent, Canterbury.
Elif is a native of Turkey and lives and works in Brussels with her husband and child.
