Biography
Heidi is the Freshwater Director for The Nature Conservancy's Great Plains Division. She has a strong interdisciplinary background spanning the fields of fluvial geomorphology, hydrology, biogeochemistry and human-environment interactions.
Heidi previously served as Director of Water and Agriculture programs for TNC in Kansas. She holds a Ph.D in geography from Kansas State University with an emphasis on fluvial geomorphology and the cultural geography of water resources. Known for her collaborative and community-minded approach to conservation, Heidi has worked with Indigenous communities in the United States, Siberian Russia, and Kenya on issues related to water quality and water sovereignty.
She’s also experienced in both agricultural and urban settings, working across Kansas to improve water security for people and nature. Heidi has been with TNC since 2016, when she was hired to manage the new Beals Healthy Streams for Kansas program.
