Biography
Pilar joined The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Latin American team to lead durable and lasting protection for nature, climate benefits and promoting community development. In this role, Pilar focuses on promoting innovative and collaborative transactions, such as debt conversion initiatives, Conservation Trust Funds and Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) approaches.
Before joining The Latin America Region, Pilar was the global director of durable protection strategies. In that role, Pilar was responsible for advancing PFP approaches and leading multi-stakeholder, participatory conservation and financial planning to ensure that terrestrial, freshwater and marine conservation can endure in perpetuity. Pilar’s career spans 20 years working for conservation organizations, including a local NGO in Colombia and with TNC in Latin America and globally. Before returning to TNC, she led stakeholder engagement and the Small Grants Program at the Global Environment Facility.
