Douglas Woods Addition Expands Protection of Fish Creek

We recently closed on 265 acres at Douglas Woods, which helps bridge the gap between the two sections of the preserve and also provide additional protection to the water quality in Fish Creek. With enhanced visitor amenities such as trails, wildlife viewing areas, accessible parking and educational signage now under development, the timing couldn’t be better for the protection of this tract.

What began in 1993 as a 290-acre nature preserve, The Nature Conservancy’s Douglas Woods has grown into 1,635 acres of mature forest and an active wetland restoration.

Fish Creek: A Community in Action (05:55) TNC started working in Fish Creek more than 30 years ago to protect threatened mussel species, and recent mussel surveys indicate an increase in mussel diversity. Thanks to the community’s direct involvement, Fish Creek is proof that Indiana can have high-quality streams in working landscapes.
