Biography
Mitch serves as executive leader for The Nature Conservancy’s work across Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi, overseeing strategy and operations that advance large‑scale conservation across forests, rivers and coastal systems in one of the most biologically diverse regions in the United States. His leadership integrates science, public policy and cross‑sector partnerships to deliver measurable, durable conservation outcomes.
Mitch brings more than 15 years of experience in conservation leadership, public policy and organizational management. Prior to his current role, he served as Executive Director for TNC in Alabama and previously as Director of External Affairs, where he led statewide and regional policy initiatives, including the Longleaf Pine Whole System and the organization’s Gulf‑wide conservation strategy. He also played a key role in federal government relations efforts supporting forestry, agriculture and appropriations priorities.
Earlier in his career, Mitch served as Program Director for the Alabama River Alliance and as an adjunct professor teaching water law and diplomacy. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a Captain in the Military Police Corps with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mitch holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law and a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
